- Kolinsky holds a point, synthetic survives abuse
- Sable keeps a fine tip through a whole session and wants careful washing. Synthetic costs less and tolerates drybrushing that would ruin sable.
- Two sizes do most of the work
- A size 1 for basecoats and a 00 for eyes and edges covers most of a model. The rest of the set is for the jobs those two cannot reach.
- A wet palette changes how paint behaves
- Acrylic on a dry palette skins in minutes. On a wet palette it stays workable for a session, which is why thinning becomes possible at all.
